Sam Sherman, Principal

Sam has more than 35 years experience in the design and construction industries. His academic training in Architecture was at The Rhode Island School of Design and the Boston Architectural Center. Coming to the Vineyard to live in 1970, Sam worked as a carpenter for many years, doing general contracting himself before being hired by Architect Niels Gabel Jorgensen. Sam was with Niels for over six years doing residential and commercial design. Although Sam still holds a Massachusetts Contractor's License, he has devoted his time solely to design for the past 28 years. As Principal of the Firm, Mr. Sherman is directly involved in all projects taking a lead role in the design process and relying heavily on his construction experience during the preparation of construction documents. Although other members of the Firm may share the load during construction administration, Sam remains actively involved in each project through its conclusion.
Ezra Sherman, PARTNER

Ezra became partner in 2019 after working for 7 years as a design associate and draftsperson. His designs are informed by his time in India and Africa as well as his time in New York. He studied architecture at the Academy of Art and is working towards licensure. His skills range from the highly technical requirements of modern homes to the traditional style of the Vineyard cottages. He is fluent across several drafting, modeling and rendering applications allowing him to participate in every project that comes through the office. In addition to overseeing the Masonic Angel Fund, which provides emergency material and financial support to island families, he serves on the board of the Martha’s Vineyard Builder’s Association and coaches youth soccer.
Tom Carberry, Senior Associate

Tom is a graduate of Syracuse University. Before transitioning to residential design, Tom worked in the marine industry as a boat builder 25 years. Tom specialized in mechanical and structural design, illustration and technical drawing. Other pursuits include residential carpentry, architectural rendering and model making, and fine art. Tom measures and records information related to existing buildings for renovation projects as well as additions. Tom also works on construction drawings preparing site plans, floor plans, and elevations.

Successful design is a recipe of form, function, funding and fantasy. Finding the proper proportions of each key ingredient is the unique challenge in any construction project. With decades of experience and education in the professional disciplines of civil and structural engineering, land surveying, shoreline development and stability as well as architectural protocol, Pete has a large toolbox of design skills to bring to the development team effort. He’s helped to develop residential homes in San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, the Jersey Shore, Newport and Cape Cod. Commercial clients include Dunkin Donuts, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, Roy Rogers, Baskin-Robins, Little Caesars, Verizon Wireless, Metro PCS, AT & T and Longwood Events. From “What ifs” to Occupancy Permit, Pete has been involved in every phase of design / development. Pete’s motto; “Bring your “someday”, I’m gonna build… ” hopes and your table napkin sketches to the office and let’s start along the path less traveled together.”
